Dr Alison Booth BSc BVMS (Hons)

Dr Alison Booth BSc BVMS (Hons)

Veterinarian

Alison graduated from Murdoch University, Western Australia in 1990 before working in small animal practices in Perth, the UK and Adelaide.

In 1999, she joined forces with former classmate Bruce Wells to form Semaphore Veterinary Surgery.

From humble beginnings, SVS has evolved into a busy six-veterinarian practice.

Alison enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, particularly senior canine and feline medicine, soft tissue surgery and dermatology. Alison is married to Paul and has two daughters. Her family work hard as the staff for two spoilt felines. She loves to travel but will always call Adelaide home.

Veterinarian

Bruce moved from his home town of Perth to set up the Semaphore practice with Alison Booth in 1999. He graduated from Murdoch University in 1990 and has worked in WA, Tasmania and the UK. With and his wife Trudy and three children, Bruce is happy to call Semaphore home and makes the most of its lovely surrounds and relaxed beach lifestyle.

He has recently acquired an adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy called Harlow. She now rules the house and is much loved by all who meet her.

Bruce enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, particularly the interaction between clients and their furry families. His special interests are in dermatology and surgery, including reconstructive knee surgery. He and Terry have been successfully performing an enhanced knee surgery treating damaged and ruptured cruciate ligaments.

Dr Terry Bannister BVSc BSc

Veterinarian

Terry graduated in Veterinary Science from Massey University, New Zealand in 2007. He began his career as a mixed animal veterinarian in the sunny Hawkes Bay of New Zealand before migrating to South Australia in 2010. He has a keen interest in orthopaedic surgery, particularly knees and hips. He has experience in performing the Tibial Tuberosity Advancement procedure for canine cruciate rupture, and along with Dr Bruce Wells is performing this surgery on a regular basis.

He has a home menagerie of a dog, two cats, and three guinea pigs as well as a young toddler so is always kept on his toes. Terry enjoys brewing his own beer and is a keen follower of rugby union and cricket.

Veterinarian

Carly graduated from Murdoch University, WA in 2010 and moved to Adelaide to start work in small animal practice. She enjoys all aspects of her work but is particularly interested in surgery and bird medicine.

She has her own fur and feather family of two dogs, a cat, and three chickens, as well as various temporary foster animals. When she is not on the beach with her dogs or renovating her house, she enjoys being out on the water on her kiteboard.

Currently Carly is on maternity leave.

Emily graduated from Murdoch University in 2012, and despite being from Adelaide originally, spent most of the next 4 years travelling and working all around Western Australia. Emily and her husband now call Semaphore home and she is happy to be a permanent part of our team.

Emily enjoys all aspects of small animal medicine, including the occasional emergency to keep her on her toes, and soft tissue surgery. At home Emily has two cheeky border collie crosses, as well as two kitties.

Emily and her husband are currently renovating their house, which takes up most of her spare time! She also enjoys packing up the car and taking the dogs camping, or venturing down to the beach to make the most of the sunshine and the relaxed Semaphore vibe.

Veterinarian

Alana moved to Adelaide in 2007, after graduating from the University of Pretoria (Onderstepoort) in South Africa where she was born.

She enjoys travelling, photography, gardening, walking and (when someone lends her a horse), horse riding. She has a special interest in radiology and ultrasound, but enjoys working up tough medical cases. Pocket pets are also something of a passion as long as they have fur and good manners!

She is the mother of two cats, Klaus and Clementine, that were both orphaned and now live a very posh life. Together with husband Cornell, every other spare minute is spent renovating their old stone cottage and making their garden bigger.

Jessie Marshall

Nursing Manager

Nursing Manager Jessie joined the practice in 2005, the same year she began her vet nursing course at TAFE. She graduated with a Certificate IV in 2008. She equally enjoys greeting clients at reception, doing admin in the office or working in surgery.

Outside office hours, Jessie enjoys Adelaide’s live music scene and pub life and shares her home with her dog Holly and two chatty Rainbow Lorikeets- Larry and Lenny.

Surgical Nursing Co-ordinator

Janina completed her Vet Nursing studies in Germany in 2011 and has worked in both countries. She arrived in Australia in 2011 and began working at SVS in early 2013. She is a knowledgeable member of the team who enjoys Surgical and Emergency Nursing.

Janina has two Labradors called Bella and Lucy and an adorable new addition- Macey the Border Collie. She enjoys travelling, meeting new people, riding motorbikes and diving. She hopes to travel more with her husband Matt.

Jo Davies

Dog Behaviour and Puppy Preschool Co-ordinator

Jo has been nursing since 2006, completing her veterinary nursing studies in 2009 and joining SVS in May 2010. She has a dog- Meesha and four cats- Lilly, Indianna, Lilah and Archie. Lilah was hand-reared from 10 days of age. Jo has previously also owned cockatiels and tropical fish.

Her interest lies in animal behaviour and she has now completed the Delta Canine training course. Jo co-ordinates SVS’s puppy pre–school and adult dog training classes as well as behaviour consultations. A great pleasure for Jo is to see her canine students' excitement every time they return to the surgery. She loves to see the pups grow to become loved members of their family. When she is not looking after her fur babies, she likes spending time with friends and family.

Kerry Machado

Kerry is a SVS veteran, joining the practice in 2003, straight from school. Since then she has gained her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and has become an accredited Vet nurse. Kerry has a special interest in birds, native animals and marine mammals. She is also involved with Australian Marine Wildlife Research and Rescue Organisation (AMWRRO).

Kerry has quite a menagerie at home which includes Great Dane Summer, Sushi a Chinchilla cat and Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo Abraham. Kerry is married to Aaron and has three charming boys.

Emma joined Semaphore Vet Surgery in 2011 and worked full-time work while studying for her Certificate IV in Vet nursing. She graduated in 2014 and is now fully qualified. Emma enjoys customer care and is equally enthusiastic about surgical nursing.

Emma is soon to be married to her partner Michael and they share their home with two beautiful Chihuahuas Gizmo and Pixie and Pug puppy, Tyrone.

Nicole completed her Diploma of Veterinary Nursing specialising in emergency and critical care in November 2012. She has worked in an emergency clinic before joining SVS in February 2013.

Nicole loves assisting the veterinarians with their surgeries and doing puppy classes.

She has a Golden Retriever called Bailey, a Siamese called Kimberly, as well as Kasimir a kitten she has hand raised from three weeks of age. She also has a Lorikeet that she has saved because he was partly paralysed and through physiotherapy he is now able to have a happy life in his aviary saying “pretty Nicky” and “Aussie” all day long.

Kate joined our team in July 2013 after doing some work experience as part of her TAFE Vet Nursing Course. She completed her Vet Nursing Course in 2014. Kate enjoys Surgical Nursing. Kate has two furry companions; Daisy the cat and Ralph a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. Kate loves to travel the world with her husband, Michael.

Mel joined our team in November 2014. She has had over nine years of experience as a vet nurse. She is currently studying for her Certificate IV after delaying study to have a family. Melissa's interests include critical care and hand raising orphaned animals. In her spare time between raising children and working, Melissa show German Shepherds. She has four of her own as well as a Great Dane. She also shares her home with four felines; Narla, Simba Rambo and Turbo and an Eclectus parrot that she hand raised.

Kendall started working part-time at Semaphore Vet Surgery in 2008. In 2014, Kendall completed studies for her Certificate IV in Vet Nursing.

She is married to Daniel and has two boys. She enjoys walking her dog Storm at the beach and she has a cat called Ridge, an orphaned kitten whom she hand raised. Kendall volunteers for the RSPCA as a carer. Her specialty is caring for neonates.

Stacey joined our team in April 2016 after doing some work experience in her final year of nursing studies. Stacey is now fully qualified with a Certificate IV in Vet Nursing from TAFE SA. One month into her nursing career, Stacey couldn't help but adopt a stray kitten who had been hit by a car. Mae Koh's leg was amputated and he now lives happily with three legs. She also shares her house with another cat, Booboo. Stacey enjoys spending time at the beach, eating Mexican food and attending music festivals.

Louise joined the Semaphore team in July 2018 after enjoying her nursing placement with us. She loved the variety of the work at the clinic from helping clients out the front to the interesting surgery and helping animals to recover out in the treatment area. Louise is hoping to finish her studies at TAFE SA to achieve the qualification of Certificate IV in Vet Nursing by the end of 2018. Growing up with a Labrador called Sandy and a Golden Retriever called Tilly she has always had a huge love of animals. When Louise is not at the clinic she enjoys playing hockey, camping and spending time with friends and family.
